Glucosamine is a simple molecule that the body makes from sugar and uses as a major building block of cartilage. It is an important component of the mucopolysaccharides, which provides structure to bone, cartilage and other body tissues.

Glucosamine helps to reduce pain and improve joint functions in those with osteoarthritis.

Studies have also shown that glucosamine relieves OA pain as effective as other conventional drugs, for example ibuprofen, and without the side effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (headache, stomach upset, gastric ulcer and nausea).

Glucosamine possesses antiarthrosic-arthrophic activities. It stimulates the anabolic metabolism of osteo-cartilaginous tissues via stimulation of biosynthesis of the mucopolysaccharides (which are the essential components of the cartilage ground substance) and of the bone mesenchymal tissues.

Glucosamine also acts to improve the viscosity of synovial fluid by increasing synovial fluid production, thereby lubricant activity.

Indications

As adjuvant therapy for osteoarthritis

Dosage

For mild to severe osteoarthritis: 2 capsules 3 times a day for 6 to 8 weeks

Maintenance therapy: 2 capsules 2 times a day for 3 to 4 months.
